Hello,

As a student of the Atlanta campaign and as one who has lived many eyars in the Atlanta area, I used to buy the story of these women sent north and never to be seen again like something on the Art Bell radio show.

But further study by a couple of scholars who have written books on the topic tells a different tale - that many did come back to Georgia later on while many stayed in Indiana where they met and married Indiana men. Others simply drop from history. There is no proof whatsoever that they were held up north after the war against their will.
