Re: Roswell women who worked in a textile?

I have read different bits and pieces on the story through the years. The story of these women has been one that disturbs me because it is not often spoken of. From what I understand, they were held in a 'town square' type of area with no shelter or relief from the elements for a while before they were sent north. There was no privacy. Quite a bit like ( I would imagine) the Indian situation while preparing for the removal.

There has been the story of the Grandmother, Daughter and Grandchild who were put in a boxcar. The Grandmother died during the trip. They never found out where she was buried.

There's also the story of the man who came home, found his wife had been taken north and tried to find her to no avail. He remarried and a few years later the first wife came home. She had worked as a domestic to try to earn passage back.

The OR's do include the messages passed back and forth by those in charge as to the disposition of the women. Seems as if Sherman said the same thing Rhett said to Scarlett.

Always thought this part of the war would make a good movie.
