Thank you very much for your rapid reponse. Although James's grandfather had lived in Jackson Co., I think this is probably not my James. I guess location of entry into the military is not a very positive indication of residence, though, because James's older brother Thomas Franklin, who lived next door to James in Heard Co. joined the 34th Infantry Regiment in Cobb Co.
