Those records must be buried deeply. I have seen estimates from 4000 to 7000 surrendered May 25, 1865, at Kingston. A state historical marker there says 3 or 4 thousand, I forget which, and some on line biographies of General Wofford say he raised 7 thousand men from February to May, 1864. It was assumed he surrendered them all. Since his force was to a large extent, deserters, draft dodgers, and folks who just wanted to be left alone, I suspect a large part of them just went home.
