From Confederate Military History, Extended Addition (Georgia volume): Pvt/Cpl Milton G. Murchison, Co. G, 59th Georgia, was severely wounded at Funkstown. A muster roll in the History of Greene County, Georgia indicates Pvt W. H. Copelan of Co. I, 8th Georgia was killed at Funkstown on 6 July, although another source says Hagerstown on 8 July. W. T. Laseter of the 11th writes of a "hard fight" at Funkstown, but gives no further details. A muster roll of Co. I, 11th, shows 1Sgt Christopher Columbus Belcher was wounded at disabled at Funkstown on 10 July, 2Lt William Andrew Cumbie had his right arm permanently disabled, Pvt William J. Pittman was killed, and Pvt Jordan Upton was wounded. Another roll of the same company shows Pvt J. N. Bowwn also wounded. The Houston Home Journal of 4 June 1891 lists Martin V. Avery of Co. K, 11th Georgia as taking a minie ball through the right elbow, a severe wound giving him a stiff arm for the rest of his life. Another roll of Co. I, 11th. Maj William G. Bass of the 59th wrote his wife: "On the 10th inst, at the battle of Funkstown, Md, the following Georgia regiments lost heavily in the fight the Eighth, Ninth, Eleventh, Seventh, Fiftieth, Sixty First, Tenth and Fifty Ninth." In the Bedingfield Family Civil War Letters at University of Virginia, a letter says 2Lt Benjamin D. Gleaton of Co. F, 59th was wounded on the 9th at Funkstown.
