Re: Pvt Newton Van Pelt 6th Georgia Calvary

Mr. Van Pelt, I don't think your ancestor was a member of the Sardis Volunteers. I have three different rosters of the Volunteers, which became Company G, 6th Georgia, and your ancestor isn't listed on any of them. According to my information, Newton Van Pelt was in Company H, 6th Georgia, commanded by Captain James Harlow. If your ancestor was captured early in the month of July, 1864, near Cedertown, I can forward you copies of Union reports of what the regiment was doing at that time. I can be reached off site at coferj@bellsouth.net. There were three men named Vann in the Sardis Volunteers, however Vann was their sir name. Regards R. Cofer
