Thanks for taking the time to reply. It's clear that stubbornness was one of Jefferson Davis' qualities, but the same is true of Lincoln and many other great leaders. As I asked earlier, can't virtually everything you posted about the Confederacy -- including desertion and men going over to the enemy -- be said of the patriots of the American Revolution? How grim did the American cause look after four years of war?
