Re: Johnston's Kennesaw Mtn. defense

I hope I understand your question correctly. There were two lines at Kennasaw mountain. The first line went from Kennesaw Mountain out to Pine Mountain and Lost Mountain. This line proved hard to defend and so they decided to keep their positions on Kennesaw mountain as the anchor and move the other parts of the line down to Chetham's Hill and on out to Kolb's Farm.

On June 27th 1864 it looks like the 19th SC was commanded by Major James L. White. The 19TH SC was in Brig. General Arthur M. Manigault's Brigade which was in Lt. Gen. John B. Hood's Corp's. This corp was positioned on the 27th at Kolb's Farm and Hood attacked Union General's Hooker's army.

Manigault's Brigade was on and just to the south of John Ward Creek. There is a valley between the two lines at the battle site. One good place to look at this battle site is driving down Knipe Dr and Hascall Dr just off Powder Springs road. Depending on if that area has grown in the last few years you might get a look at the site. Its been many years since I've gone over there.
