Re: Johnston's Kennesaw Mtn. defense

Lyle, George and Lee:

I just can't tell you fellows how much I appreciate the time you took to shed some light on this for me. My husband's g-g-uncle was a member of Co. H of the 19th SC Infantry and I was at my wits end to learn anything much about their activities during the Atlanta Campaign.

But, thanks to ya'll I've even found a little about some of the other members of Company H. There's nothing on the web that I can find about Co. H. Unlce Joe's service records state "Enlisted November 18, 1862 at Chester Dist. SC by Capt. Senn for (the duration of the) War. And, that's all I know about his company.

Reading those letters and knowing Uncle Joe was there amidst the action, learning what he witnessed, understanding the fear, the discomford...well, now I've REALLY been able to - as Alan Pitts says - "put flesh on them bones".

Sadly, Uncle Joe was captured July 3rd near Marietta and spent the remainder of the war in Camp Morten IN.

Thanks again to all of you. If you find anything else, I hope you will post it. Anybody have any more of those letters? I could sit and read those all day long.
