I believe it was Ross's Brigade of Cav that was there, but you also had a Gang of Texas deserters that was operating in the area under a fellow named Jack Colquitt. These men had been from the 8th Texas and 11th Texas Cavalry, who bad been in hospitals in Rome when they deserted. Colquitt ended up being gunned down in Cedartown in 1865 by the son of one of the men he had murdered.
