Hello Sheila, I have done a little research on the Ga. 29th Cav. Bn. It's Colonel was Arthur Hood from whom the Hood Hospital in Cuthbert, GA was named. Each Company came from a different area of the state. The 29th was organized as a special offer. If a man were to enlist in the unit he was promised NOT to be more than 100 miles from his home or place of enlistment. Needless to say things did NOT work out this way but the unit did try and keep their word for a period of time. As a result men flocked to the unit so they could be close to home. The men were required to keep their own horses etc. I will try and find what Company he was with as I have found some soldiers of this unit who have been lost for a long time. Thx
