At Shiloh you will notice that many Confederates who died as a result of the battle are buried in mass graves found at different points throughout the park. Federal dead were collected after the battle and buried in the Shiloh National Cemetery. This is one of the first national military parks. Over a hundred monuments and memorials were placed in the park by Northern veterans and Northern states before the first Southern monument was erected at Shiloh.
