Thank you for asking! Of course you may, and if you wish to contact me off line I can provide other information about the senior reserves. Another alternative would be to use the search function on the Alabama board and read posts using both words, senior reserves. The Official Records, which you may search on line, will reference 5th Georgia Reserves and assignments of that command during the last year of the war.

Several years back I wrote about a state militia company (AKA home guards) organized to deal with deserters and reluctant conscripts in Shelby County AL. Another group that some describe as home guards operated in the same county, but generally behaved as the worst sort of outlaws. When I read Cold Mountain, I said to myself, I know these people!

That's the main reason I alert people to be careful about free use of the term, home guards.
