Mr.Patton, The hand inside the jacket was a popular pose. It was considered Napoleonic. Men who rode horses often left the bottom buttons of their jackets undone, giving their lower torso more freedom when mounted. This was so common that undone lower buttons became the trademark of cavalrymen. Regards, R. Cofer
