36TH (Villepigue’s) Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry

This regiment was organized in October 1861, by the addition of Mississippi companies and a Florida company to the 1ST Battalion Georgia Volunteer Infantry which was organized in April 1861. The designation was changed to the 1ST Confederate Infantry by S. O. No. 25, A. & I. G. O., dated January 31, 1862
