Re: 11th Georgia Infantry Regiment

My Great-Grandfather, John Seaborn Plemmons was a 1st Lieutenant in Company D, 11th Georgia. He was from Boardtown, Gilmer County, Georgia and he died there in 1901. He enlisted as a Private and served from the Company's formation in July 1861 to disbandment at Appamattox in April 1865. He was wounded in the leg in battle, developed gangrene, had several skin grafts, and eventually died from complications of this injury about 40 years after the fact. I have his colored charcoal portrait in uniform with his gun, which was taken after his injury and one or two skin grafts. After the War, he married the widow of another member of the 11th Georgia named Fain. Fain, who was killed in battle, had requested that Plemmons take care of his widow, should he be killed and Plemmons kept his word.
