Re: School for Confederate Orphans in Atlanta

Mr Whitehead,

You might try some period newspapers. Emory and especially U Ga have microfilm copy. If they are not convenient to you, there are several websites where you can run searches for, and download, digitized copies of the newspaper/article.

Among the sites you might wish to check:

The Atlanta Journal Constitution (www.ajc.com) - covers back to the 1870's

Historical Newspaper archives (www.newspaperarchives.com) copies of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, back as far as the 1870's

Genealogy Bank (www.genealogybank.com)
Atlanta journal Constitution, and I believe Macon and Columbus papers

I have used all but genealogy bank, and that only because I limit the number of website subscriptions I have at any time. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Newspaper Archive each have some material that overlaps the other, and some that is unique to the individual site. Of the two, I've had better luck with ajc's search tools.

Happy hunting

Andrew Johnson
