To Paul Cronic:
I am just starting some research on the 16th Cav. My objective is to end up with a chronology, map set, and brief history. This is a family history project, rather than a serious academic enterprise. I would like to discuss with you how we might help each other in our respective efforts. Maps is probably my strong suit.
On to the subject of this thread: 2LT Jack Haynie of Company E purchased 9 yards of Confederate Gray cloth on Aug 9, 1864.
The receipt does not give a location, but 43 days later, Jack Haynie was captured Sept 22, 1864 at the battle of Fishers Hill in the Valley.
This was a year, to the day, after his nephew William Daniel was captured "near Knoxville", perhaps at Blountville.
