You're correct.
When Vaughn's brigade was dispatched north, May 30 a portion of the brigade was left behind, from I believe, Newton, NC. And therefore remained in East Tennessee environs.
In May 1864, 334 men of the 16th Georgia Battalion Cavalry was reported as in Vaughn's brigade. Col S. J. Winn, commanding
At Piedmont, June 5, 1864, it was reported that Vaughn's brigade consisted of detachments of:
Of among others, 16th Georgia Battalion.
My interest is in the 43rd Tennessee, and of necessity have to follow the travels of Vaughn's brigade to establish their actions. This is because of the lack of Confederate records for the regiment post Vicksburg, July 63'.
I have no other information on the 16th Georgia.
