Mr. Lowry,

Catoosa Springs was in North Georgia in Catoosa County near Ringgold. It was not as far south as Atlanta-Griffin.

To obtain a more precise date of establishment you may want to refer to "Confederate Hospitals on the Move: Samuel H. Stout and the Army of Tennessee", by Glenna R. Schroeder-Lein. You may want to also check out Confederate Nurse Kate Cumming's, "A journal of hospital life in the Confederate Army of Tennessee." I believe she may have worked in this hospital.

The historical marker for the hospitals is located on Keith Street in Ringgold. Its text is as follows:

"CATOOSA SPRINGS CONFEDERATE HOSPITALS in 1862-1863 several Confederate hospitals were located here. The sick and wounded Confederate soldiers drank of the health-giving waters of the several mineral springs in this area. Drinking this mineral water and bathing in its enabled many sick soldiers to return to duty. Early in October 1863 these hospitals were abandoned to prevent capture by Federal forces. Part of the 4th Army Corps (US) under General Howard camped here May 4th, 5th, and 6th, 1864."

I hope this helps.

Respectfully,
