Hi Beth:
I am just finishing up the manuscript for my book "I Will Give Them One More Shot," about Colonel James N. Ramsey's First Georgia Volunteer Infantry. The manuscript will be going to Mercer University Press next week for evaluation. I hope that they will agree to publish it.
My ancestor, William Henry Marshall, was in the same company of the First as your ancestor - Company H, the Dahlonega Volunteers. The following is from the roster which will be at the end of the book:
Tyner, John F. (Tiner): Enlisted July 24, 1861. Mustered out March 10, 1862 in Augusta, Georgia. Appointed 3rd Sergeant of Company C, 52nd Infantry Regiment May 14, 1862. Taken prisoner at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863, and paroled there July 16, 1863. Exchanged October 8, 1863. Wounded and disabled at New Hope Church, Georgia May 25, 1864. Buried Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, near Coal Mountain, Forsyth County.
Please visit my website www.ramseysfirstgeorgia.com - I have a brief history of the regiment. There is an image on the roster page of Benjamin Campbell of the Dahlonega Volunteers. Unfortunately, I do not have a photograph of my ancestor, but Campbell's image shows the uniform they would have worn. I would be most interested in your opinion.
