As his mother filed a claim for his effects on August 24, 1863, I'd say he died sometime in advance of that date.

He is not listed on the record of those paroled at Vicksburg, July 4-9, 1863 when his regiment marched out of Vicksburg on their way home. Had he been
paroled, his parole document would most certainly survived in Federal records to have been incorporated in his CSR file, which is not there.

I suspect he died at Vicksburg and is among the unknowns buried in the Confederate Rest Section of the City Cemetery.

The historian at the Vicksburg Military History Park in Vicksburg may have something in his record file for the 52nd Georgia and perhaps hospital records.

The Vicksbug Old Court House Museum may also have information.

Then again, he may have made it home where he died, doubtful however.
