This soldier, Francis M. Bates, who was in company E of the 3rd Georgia Infantry, is listed as being "discharged, never acquired a domicile, August 15, 1862", whatever that seems to indicate. So he obviously survived, but I feel that this may have been our stage actor, Francis Marion Bates, and that he returned to the stage after his brief service in the Army. The actor, Francis Marion Bates, is shown in Richmond newspapers, as performing on the stage from October, 1862 onwards, and was also married to actress, Eliza Wren, at Wilmington, North Carolina, in November, 1863.
