Private John C. Spivey, 2nd Georgia Infantry

Hello again,

This time I'm seeking information on Private John C. Spivey, Company G, 2nd Georgia Infantry.

According to the Georgia rosters, Spivey was killed at Sharpsburg, (Antietam), MD, but another source (a letter written by Private Fogle to his [Fogle's] parents on September 28, 1862), states Spivey was wounded in the knee and captured by Federals troops when he couldn't keep up with the regiment's withdrawal from the bluffs overlooking Burnside's Bridge. Philip Thomas Tucker, author of "Burnside's Bridge The Climactic Struggle of the 2nd and 20th Georgia at Antietam Creek", notes Spivey died in a Federal prison in 1864.

Can anyone provide information about Spivey, his company ("The Columbus Guards"), and the armament and/or sharpshooting capabilities of the regiment?

Again, thanks!

Scott
