The Eastern theater is not my field of study, in fact, I'm returning form four days in Vicksburg, presently holding in Las Vegas suffering a total delay of some 10 hours in flights from Jackson, MS to Reno.
It would depend on the nature of his wounds where he was taken after he was wounded. He could have been shipped to Richmond, or remained nearby the battlefield. However, if he had been sent to Richmond, we would expect to find hospital records in his file.
I do know that some bodies from First Manassas were returned to Richmond for burial in either Hollywood or Oakwood.
Reading Faust's "The Republic of Suffering" on the plane this afternoon, she records that some 266 soldiers from Second Manassas were buried in the Groveton Confederate Cemetery, of which only two are known.
You might try contacting these two Richmond cemeteries to ascertain if he might appear on one of their lists. Beware however, the majority buried there are unknowns.
If you're lucky, there may be a diarist from the unit out there who may have information.
Most likely, he was buried nearby where he was convalescing.
