The Georgia in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Hospital records at Kingston, GA

The message boards are valuable because they allow us to communicate with people who have experience in many different areas. No one person could attempt to answer all the questions posted. Consider also, answers are subject to question. Despite the of best intentions, my post may have been incorrect, misleading or biased in some way. If so, hopefully someone will quickly correct the record by posting a better answer that gives you correct information.

Net result -- we should all learn something new almost every day.

Concerning your question about the Stout Collection at Emory --
This is a substantial collection. If you decide to visit Atlanta and see what's there, plan to come early, stay late, and be sure to pack your lunch! However, if I'm not mistaken, it's just part of all the papers that Surgeon Stout left behind after the war ended. Other parts are at University of Texas, and still others may be privately owned. The full story of his collection will be found in Confederate Hospitals on the Move --

How these papers were handed down and made available today is a great story all on its own.
