The Lousiana Troops involved were involved in the first stages of the Battle of Utoy Creek on 04-05 August 1864. Many of the skirmishers were captured on both sides in a contest for the high ground above the North Fork of the Creek near Herrings Mill. A feint attack was also made on 6 August 1864 to cover the Main attack along the South Fork of the Creek in an outwork prepared by the Confederates of Bates Division.
