Re: 3rd Battalion, Co. A, Georgia Sharpshooters

Alan,
Thanks for you insight and leads, I must admit now that I am not positive of it being a George T. Smith for sure, but the one that you mentioned from Cobb's Legion sure looks like the one that I was looking at from Newton County 1860 Census as living with a William Berry in Covington, Georgia, as his dob does match Census files. The reason I doubt it be the one that I want is that he was listed as still alive in the 1900's, and I am suspecting that the George Smith that I am seeking died between 02-11-1864 and April 1867, as that is when my G-G-Grandmother remarried. George ? Smith was her 1st husband and would be my G-G-Grandfather. Her brothers all served with the 35th Georgia Co.B, and her 2nd husband and his brothers all served with the 18th Georgia Co.B, and one of her 2nd husbands brothers did get transfered to the 3rd Batt Co. A in 1863. The Georgia GenWebArchives show a George T. Smith as being in Co B, 18th Georgia, and then transfering to the 3rd Batt Co. A June 1863, captured at Fairview and released Pt Lookout June 20th 1865, and at this point think that it might be this individual that I am seeking. Guess next move is to try and get a copy of his service record and see if it reveals any leads as to if he was on leave in February 1864, as that is when they got married. Thanks again for your help
