Re: What Georgia regiments fought in W. Va. in 186

My great-grandfather, Serana/Serrana Parkman, soldiered with Company B, 13th Georgia Infantry, and that regiment participated in the western Virginia campaign from September 1861 to mid December 1861. The 13th was one of 6 regiments that made up what then or later was known as Lawton's Brigade, the others being the 26th, 31st, 38th, 60th and 61st. The 13th was assigned to the command of a General Floyd but I don't know if any of the other regiments were sent to western Virginia. The 13th participated in the battles of Sewell Mountain and Laurel Hill and apparently suffered mightily from the cold before they were sent back to Georgia to guard the coast around Savannah.

Another member of Company B, Cyrus F. Jenkins, kept a diary during that period of time. It is in the Troup County Archives and the Digital Library of Georgia. You can Google it at "Cyrus F. Jenkins."
