Thanks for your reply. Let us knowif you have unanswered question. Deserters were kept apart from other Confederate prisoners and released at Louisville KY as soon as they took the oath. Evidently the soldier identified himself as a deserter and expressed a willingness to take the oath pf allegiance. Otherwise he would have been sent to a real prisoner-of-war camp north of the Ohio River.
