Those Cobbs - tough tracking them down!

Hi there:

As fate would have it, I have two terribly difficult families to pin down during the Civil War -- the Cobbs and the Chapmans. For those who have done research on either, you know of what I speak! Specifically, however, I am looking to track down my second great-grandfather's unit/rank, etc. to start with. Here is what I have so far:

Name: Jacob Wilkins Cobb (also listed as Jacob Cobb, J.W. Cobb)
He was born in Georgia, Chattahoochee CO., March 15, 1846 and died in Texas in 1918. I am not positive that he served in a Georgia unit, but is highly likely, as I believe this branch of the Cobbs only moved to Texas after the war. From the National Archives, I was able to get the following information:

Jacob W. Cobb (First_Last)
Regiment Name 28 Batt'n Georgia Siege Art'y.
Side Confederate
Company H
Soldier's Rank_In Private
Soldier's Rank_Out Private
Alternate Name
Notes
Film Number M226 roll 12

Jacob Cobb (First_Last)
Regiment Name 3 Georgia Reserves.
Side Confederate
Company C
Soldier's Rank_In Private
Soldier's Rank_Out Private
Alternate Name
Notes
Film Number M226 roll 12

Jacob W. Cobb (First_Last)
Regiment Name 9 Georgia Infantry.
Side Confederate
Company K
Soldier's Rank_In Private
Soldier's Rank_Out Private
Alternate Name J. W./Cobb Jr.
Notes
Film Number M226 roll 12

I don't know enough about the units to even hazard a guess as to which one it might be. I have not yet been able to track down a CSA pension record for him, but that could be because of the name issues (Jacob, J., J.W., etc.)

I realize that there's not a lot to go on here, but any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Michael Chapman
