Dr Massey,
For a brief overview of the activities of the 38th Georgia toward the wars end you may wish to view http://users.erols.com/brant/GeorgiaBrigade/service.html According to Mr Brants website, the 38th was involved in Winchester (3rd Battle of) (Sept. 19, 1864), Fisher's Hill (September 22, 1864), Cedar Creek (October 19, 1864), Hatcher's Run (Feb. 5-7, 1865), Hares Hill (Fort Stedman) (March 25, 1865), and Appomattox Court House (April 9, 1865).

The letters of one of my ancestors indicate that the regiment was located near New Market, VA on 12 Oct 1864 (between battles of Fishers Hill and Cedar Creek), in Burgess Mills Va in early March 1865, and then took part in the attack on Ft. Stedman near Petersburg, VA in late March 1865.

Hope this information is of some help
