Re: 4th Georgia Cavalry
In Response To: 4th Georgia Cavalry ()

Mr. Watt,

In Accordance with "The War of the Rebellion: A Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies," Series I, Volume XXXI, Book 1, (S#54),

Order of Battle.
NOVEMBER 4-DECEMBER 23, 1863.--The Knoxville (Tennessee) Campaign.
No. 57. --Organization of the Troops in East Tennessee under command of Lieut. Gen. James Longstreet, C. S. Army, November 30, 1863.

Page 453.

Major General William T. Martin, commanding Cavalry Corps.

Martin's Division
Second Brigade.
Col. J. J. MORRISON, commanding.
1st Georgia, Lieut. Col. S. W. Davitte, commanding.
2d Georgia, Lieut. Col. F. M. Ison, commanding.
3d Georgia, Lieut. Col. R. Thompson, commanding.
4th Georgia, Col. Isaac W. Avery, commanding.

What pieces and parts actually participated in what actions is another question. The cavalry was a huge mess during this time period.

I hope this helps.

Respectfully,

Gerald D. Hodge, Jr.
