Nickajack Gap Apr 23, 1864

I need help with this. I've read everything I can find in the OR about the raid on Apr 23, 1864 by elements of Wheeler's Cav against some of Wilder's pickets, esp. the 92nd Ill. They accuse an ancestor of mine of murdering a POW who was running too slow to keep up. Since no letter of protest was sent to Wheeler, along with a threat to retaliate, I'm highly suspicious. The 92nd went to great lengths, interviewing dying soldiers, soldiers who escaped, surgeons and citizens (no names given). Then the whole matter just seems to have blown over, except that modern sources are perpetuating this slander against the honor of my ancestor, Col. Marcellus Pointer of Wheeler's staff.
