Re: Shermans March
In Response To: Re: Shermans March ()

Some were having a discussion of the "March" at another forum I am a member of.

I remember hearing all my life that General Sherman found Madison Ga in Morgan county too pretty of a city to burn. This was taught in my 8th grade Ga history class as well.

However the research I have done leads me to believe that railroad and governmental buildings were destroyed in Madison as in many more locations.

Also, if I have read correctly Gen. Sherman was traveling with the right wing column which never came closer than 20 miles to Madison. They traveled from Decatur-Conyers-Covinton-Shady Dale- Eatonton- Milledgeville

Wasnt it in fact the left wing that passed through Madison, Ga WITHOUT General Sherman along.
