Re: Col. James J. Clarkson
In Response To: Col. James J. Clarkson ()

The command of Clarkson's Battalion seems to have been assumed by Michael Buster after Col. Clarkson was captured at the Battle of Locust Grove in July of 1862. At Newtonia, MO, the battalion was referred to as Buster's Battalion. Does anyone know if the makeup of this battalion was essentially the same as the later 15th Arkansas (Buster's) Cavalry Battalion? My ggf William Lawrence St. Clair, from Franklin County, Arkansas claimed to have been a 2nd sgt in Buster's Arkansas Battalion, although he said in his Texas Confederate pension application that he served in Buster's Battalion for 4 years. The only way this could have been possible was that he had also served under Michael Buster long before he took over the 15th Arkansas Cavalry. Are there any complete rosters of Clarkson's and Buster's battalions?
