Thanks for posting this. The Cookson Hills are in the area around Kansas, OK, southwest of Mayesville AR. This is Keetoowah Country and not a safe place for any Southern Men to be travelling.

I've started a page on my website for medical personnel for the Cherokee troops with a request for additional information. I'll add Dr. Ballinger. Maybe someone can fill in the gaps in the stories.

If anyone has information on surgeons and their assistants in the Union Cherokee units, I'd sure like to add it to my website too.
