I am trying to find out any info on my gggrandfather, James W. Helton. He was called One Arm Jim because he lost an arm escaping capture at Murphreesboro. Family talk is that he was a courier.He lived in Covington or Escambia County Alabama during the war. I am trying to locate the company or regiment he was in. Would like to know the name of his Commanding officer if possible. Am also uncertain if he was with his brother Henry or cousin? Membrance. They are listed on the Creek rolls even though they are Cherokee. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
