Your ancestor apparently was a member of John Drew's Regiment (Confederate) or the 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles, Company H. He is listed in the Broadfoot Roster of Confederate Soldiers/NARA this way.

This unit "defected" en masse in 1862 with most of its men becoming members of the 2nd and 3rd Indian Home Guard (Union). I have yet to find your ancestor listed in either of these units; however, I do not have a complete muster roll for either unit.

I would be interested to know what unit his pension mentions.
