Re: GAR and UCV Cemetery Plots

Thanks for the response.

I have been to the Union Veterans' cemetery near 36rd and Eastern several times and was in contact with Dale Talkington for several years (he who brought about the restoration of the cemetery).

I have also been to Rose Hill Cemetery at Ardmore and have walked the cemetery looking for Civil war vet tombstones. I DID NOT walk the Confederate Veterans section since it had been catalogues and was in book form at OHS in OKC. Someday I will need to make it down there to check the veracity of the book's list of inscriptions.

My hope is to document all GAR and UCV plots in the state. I know some are large (Fairlawn in OKC- both UCV and GAR), Ponca City (GAR), Ardmore (UCV). But there are several small plots- Fairlawn in Stillwater- one lot of 5 graves with only one burial; Lawson at Yale with one lot of 5 or 6 graves.

The problem is the inability to travel at will (lack of time/money- kids in sports and scouts). So if you know of any other actual GAR or UCV plots, I would appreciate your forwarding that information to me.

Thanks for all your responses to those of us researching the Civil War in Oklahoma!
