Re: Timber Hill C.N. November 19, 1864

The battle or skirmish of Timbered Hill was located ten miles North East of Cabin Creek. Captain Welch of the 1st Kansas colored Inf. Company K was killed at the skirmish. The only account of this skirmish is located in a book I edited called Wagon Boss. The fight occured when Captain Welch with a small detachment of men, numbers unknown were spotted on the timbered hill just south of the Texas Road by Federals protecting a wagon train. The Federals managed to get behind the confederates on the south side of the hill and killed several including the captain.
