Civil War story on banks of AR river near Tulsa, O

There is a new Airboat River Tour Service starting on the Arkansas River as it runs alongside the City of Tulsa. As the boat tours the historical sites along the river, the operator tells the stories of various sites. We recently heard of an incident that supposedly occurred on the river where there is a ledge under the water that forms a path across the river. The story was that a brigade of Union soldiers had cornered the Indian Confederate Brigade along the bank of the Arkansas River about where that ledge occurs. The Indians knew about it, the Union soldiers didn't. The Union Brigade felt like they could retire for the night and the Confederate Indians would be there in the morning and they could capture them. Come daylight, there was not an Indian soldier to be seen. In the dark of the night they had walked single file, silently across the river and disappeared into the hills.
Has anyone else heard this story and maybe a few more details? It would make a neat piece of history to share with the passengers on the Airboat.
