During our annual Memorial Service, which took place on Saturday, 20th July, Professor LeRoy H. Fischer cut a ceremonial ribbon to open Interpretive Trails #4 ("Battle for the Bridge"), #5 ("Final Action"), and #6 ("Honey Springs Depot").
[At last year's service the first three trails were dedicated: #1 "A Nervous Rest" (Federal bivouac), #2 "The Battle Begins," #3 "Waiting for History" (Confederate line).]
The Friends of Honey Springs Battlefield have printed a new edition of the "Guide to the Interpretive Trails & Wayside Exhibits Text" as a service to those who cannot walk the graveled trails. [#1 is 0.35 mi.; #2 is 0.1 mi.; #3 is 0.3 mi. plus an optional primitive trail that is 0.6 mi.; #4 is 0.5 mi.; #5 is 0.2 mi.; and, #6 consists of new signs in the pavilion that was the principal interpretive point at Honey Springs.]
Work now begins on exhibits for the temporary LeRoy H. Fischer Interpretive Center which will be dedicated on Saturday, 28th September, as part of the triennial reenactment.
All y'all come!
