Civil War in Benton County, AR

The War in Indian Territory frequently spilled over into NW Arkansas (and vice versa)especially Benton County. Because of this the two are forever linked as far as Civil War history. The Benton County Historical Society, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, has finally capitalized on the events of the War in that area. A handbook has been published and is available from the BCHS. Entitled "Skirmishes Around Bentonville & Little Sugar Creek Preceding the Battle of Pea Ridge" the 32 page book sells for $5.00 and is well worth it. In conjunction with this book is another informative publication entitled "Civil War Marker Self Drive Tour Guide to Ten Skirmishes & Campsites Throughout the County" and is available for $2.00. For the historian and/or Civil War buff interested in the war in Indian Territory, I urge you to take a tour of NE Oklahoma and NW Arkansas and learn how the two are linked historically. P. S. Don't forget to stop for a visit and tribute to Brig. Gen. Stand Watie at his gravesite near Southwest City, MO.
