Growing up in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma I listened over the years to the 'old timers' discussing the Battle of Oak Hills (Wilson's Creek). Many of them emphatically stated that it was one of Col. Stand Watie's detached scouts that was responsible for Gen. Lyons demise. Is there any documentation to give credence to this?
