This man is James Monroe King, of Prairie County, Arkansas. He raised a company at Brownsville, Arkansas, and was elected captain. The company was mustered into Confederate service as Co. C, 2nd Arkansas Mounted Rifles, at Camp McRae, Arkansas, on July 20, 1861. He was severely wounded at Wilson's Creek, Missouri, on August 10, 1861. When the company reorganized on May 8, 1862, he was not reelected captain, and resigned on May 23, 1862. He returned home to Prairie County and served in the home guards for the rest of the war. He was born in 1818 in Tennessee, and died in 1891 in Lonoke County, Arkansas.
