Capt. Alex Foreman
In Response To: Lee's Battery ()

Thanks very much for the roster, Jim. It seems a bit small for a battery of 4, and later 6 cannon, the name of Captain Alexander Foreman may by a clue to the Cherokee contribution to the battery. My records show he served the first year of the war in 1st Co. C, Watie's Mounted Rifles. On July 12, 1862, he was elected Captain of 2nd Co. E of the same regiment. He was "removed by court-martial, June 25, 1863", maybe because he opposed converting his company to artillery?? The date of his removal is about the date that I think Lee's Battery was formed. Thanks to Ken, also. I'm guessing the two of you are related???
