Folks,

Jim Martin contacted me a couple of days ago, and I have been searching for James E. Davis, in Mississippi units. So far, I have not been able to identify the James Davis that served with the Choctaw Battalion. I do have Grady Howell's three volume set which list Mississippi Confederate Soldiers, Sailors and Marines and there are four or five pages of J. Davis, J.E. Davis, James Davis, James E. Davis and J. with other initial Davis listings. I will be glad to photocopy the pages and send them to you. it is too many to easily type (I'm a poor typest). I have another source of Union and Confederate soldiers that lists 1,823 James Davis soldiers (on both sides), and about 900 J. Davis soldiers. I'm slowly going through it, but so far nothing jumps out. Do you have any other information that may give us a clue, like where he was killed or if it was in a battle, which one?

Keep looking

Wayne Adams
