Re: Report: Raid on the WICHITA Agency

In trying to precisely locate the site of the original Wichita Agency. Generally it is said that is was on Leeper Creek near its mouth on the Washita. Ms. Wright says it was about 2 miles NE of the town of Wichita. The OHS marker on Hwy 62 says it is 5 1/2 miles north of the marker which would put it north of Wichita 2-3 miles.

Horace Jones, who survived the raid, said his house was 4 miles from the Washita River which would be north of the lake on Leeper Creek.

So, all within the same general vicinity but with only 3 structures, I wouldn't expect them to be a couple of miles apart.

Has the site of Leeper's house, Jones' house, and the other agency building been pecisely located?
