The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Hay Camp -- Flat Rock Creek

Yes. I found the map I had marked the location on when I was there with them. The artifacts were actually found in the water with under water metal detectors. The water was low at the time. While this isn't proof by any means, it is the first time that I am aware of civil war period artifacts being located in that area of where the battle was supposed to be. It could also simply have been a location where several of the escaping black troops were found, and not the main area of the battle. Most people I had spoken to believed that the actual location was on a creek that once had the name "Nigger Creek", that creek was later remained after a highschool student who was studing the battle pointed it out to the state. I still have a map with that name on it. Tradition was that was where the battle happened hence the name.
